About The Opportunity: The role is exciting, challenging and offers you a wide range of opportunities to work with and support young people who are experiencing homelessness.

Located at a modern facility in Dandenong, your responsibilities include the provision of safe and secure accommodation, information, options and appropriate individual support to homeless young people and by assisting and advocating on their behalf, assist them obtain suitable and secure long term housing. You will be working to encourage and facilitate young people to set and meet their goals in participating in education, employment and training.

To be successful you will be passionate about working with young people and have strong client assessment and engagement skills, be competent in case management principles, together with communication, and research skills.

About the Program: WAYSS Ltd Emergency Youth Accommodation is a 10-bed facility located in Dandenong. It provides 24-hour residential support and case management to single young people who are homeless. Residents are expected to make a commitment to engage in some form of education, employment or training. This may include mainstream options, however it may involve volunteer work, participating in community groups or similar alternate options. EYA is dedicated to an individualised response to young people’s needs.
The program primarily explores whether or not a young person can safely return to the family home. If it is not possible for a safe return, but there is an option for a young person to build a healthy relationship with family members, clients can be referred to a specialist practitioner who can facilitate positive interaction meetings.
The program encourages residents to develop their independent living skills in a manner suitable to their needs

About WAYSS: WAYSS is a community based organisation which was formed as a result of the amalgamation of several small incorporated associations. It is WAYSS core purpose to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to improve their life circumstances by providing access to stable, affordable and safe accommodation. WAYSS exists to serve those in the community who are experiencing difficulties by offering support and advocacy to alleviate homelessness and re-establish connections and links in the community.

Many of WAYSS services have been in operation since the late 1970's and we are committed the provision of services to those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. WAYSS aims to provide the best service possible within available resources. All staff are professionally trained and/or hold relevant tertiary qualifications.

Your conditions of employment are in line with the WAYSS Ltd and Social and Community Services Employees Enterprise agreement including a generous salary packaging option and 5 weeks leave.
