We are currently seeking applications for a passionate Systems Operations Engineer to join the Technical Services team. This is a full time, permanent position based in our Melbourne office.

About the role

The Technical Services department is responsible for the Technical Management, Development and Operations of our online products and supporting infrastructure.

The Operations team within the Technical Services department is responsible for the technical design, development, operation management, monitoring and support of the of the extended networking and server infrastructure underpinning Infoxchange’s online products.

The Systems Operations Engineer role is responsible for performing design, implementation, automation, administration and monitoring of the networking, infrastructure and application hosting environment, including coordination with related third-parties, as well as contributing to ongoing process improvement.

Key duties and responsibilities

The individual will be accountable for:

  • Ongoing development and enhancement of Infoxchange’s ‘infrastructure as code’ automated network and server environment, including:
    • Build / Acquire (Technical Architecture / Design; Build; Quality Control; Defect Resolution; CI/CD and Source Control)
    • Deploy (Release / Deployment Management; Configuration Management)
    • Asset Inventory management (both software and hardware)
  • Operation Management of the Applications, Infrastructure and Network, including:
    • Service Catalogue and Request Fulfilment
    • Operations Monitoring
    • Identity and Access Management
    • Event, Incident, and Problem Management
  • Measuring, Reporting and Auditing of Operations processes and assets

To be considered for this role you will have:

  • Knowledge
    • (desirable) Relevant systems/network operations/administration qualification(s)
    • (non-essential) Relevant tertiary qualification(s)
  • Skills
    • Full server stack, hosting and server design, implementation, operations and security management experience for highly available and scalable web environments, using a broad set of contemporary, open source centric technologies
      • Especially the following or similar: Git/GitLab; Puppet; Redhat / CentOS Linux; OS Security Hardening and Related Tooling; Docker / Application Containerisation; Kubernetes; Basic Ruby Development / Scripting; PostgreSQL; Elastic Stack; GlusterFS; Nagios, Icinga or Prometheus Monitoring Platforms; Message Queuing Systems; CDN and DDoS mitigation services.
    • (desirable) Operations process improvement using an appropriate blend of DevOps and ITIL practices and tools
      • Including aligning and integrating processes and SLAs with both customers and supplier’s processes
    • (non-essential) Exposure to web application development frameworks and languages, using a broad set of contemporary, open source centric technologies
    • (non-essential) Some Windows environment administration
  • Experience
    • Experience in a relevant similar system operations / engineering role
    • Working in Agile, DevOps and ITIL based environments
    • Experience in version controlled, highly automated ‘infrastructure as code’ environments, ideally based on open source technologies
    • Experience in operating and maintaining highly available and scalable network and server infrastructure, both self-managed and through third-party providers
    • (desirable) Experience in software product vendor organisations advantageous
    • (desirable) Experience in public cloud infrastructure (including SaaS, IaaS and PaaS) advantageous
    • (non-essential) History of public contributions to public / open source projects
