North East Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Worker

We have an exciting opportunity for a Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Worker to join our Social and Financial Inclusion team and be a part of an innovative and trusted community service organisation within one of Australia's largest welfare networks – Uniting, including Kildonan UnitingCare as a founding agency.

Kildonan is joining together with 21 UnitingCare agencies to form a new organisation. We will be called Uniting (Victoria and Tasmania) Limited. On 1 July 2017 all ongoing UnitingCare employees will transfer to employment with Uniting. Once this is complete, Uniting will be one of the largest community service providers within Victoria and Tasmania. Uniting to inspire people, enliven communities and confront injustice.

What's involved in this position?

The Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Program (TAAP) is administered by Consumer Affairs Victoria and delivered statewide by 17 community agencies, including housing agencies and community legal centres.

The TAAP provides a quality tenancy service to financially disadvantaged Victorians and / or those experiencing family violence, through information and referral, negotiation and Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) assistance, including advocating for tenants at VCAT hearings.

The North East Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Program will be delivered by Kildonan, from our base in Epping and with outreach across the service area.

We would love to hear from you if you have:

  • A qualification or experience in a relevant field such as law, housing, social work or dispute resolution

  • Experience in applying the residential tenancy legislation

  • Knowledge and experience of VCAT processes and procedures

  • Experience working with and advocating for vulnerable people

  • Have a passion for continuous improvement and quality
