About Hope Street

Hope Street is a not-for-profit, community-based organisation that specialises in working with young people and young families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Melbourne’s north and west. It provides a range of specialist programs and services including crisis accommodation, transitional housing and outreach support including an after-hours service.

How would you describe your culture?

  • Youth-focused
  • Strengths-based
  • Responsive

What is the best thing about working for your organisation?

Being able to create positive changes in the lives of young people. We know that in Victoria alone over 20 000 young people presented to homelessness services in the past 12 months. This is unacceptable in a country as wealthy as Australia. We believe that no young person should be without a home.

By working at Hope Street, we know that we are part of change – and helping young people and young families to find a place to call home as a key stepping stone to creating a life in which their hopes and dreams are realised.

What is a recent project or accomplishment you’re particularly proud of?

Our Hope Street First Response Youth Service in Melton. Hope Street successfully campaigned for Melton’s first purpose built crisis accommodation and support centre for local young people and their children. In partnership with the Victorian Government, Melton City Council and the community of Melton, this youth centre will provide a range of specialist support services responding holistically to young peoples’ situation of homelessness and crisis. Find out more here.
